Earlier this year, the Disney Cruise Line invited Daps Magic to go on a cruise aboard the Disney Wonder. This cruise departed San Diego for a 4-night Baja Mexico cruise. This included stops at Catalina Island and Ensenada, Mexico. The cruise was packed with activities that showcased the Disney magic that can be found when cruising with Disney.

We really love cruising and have cruised with several other cruise lines regularly. This was the first time aboard a Disney Cruise Line ship, however. The Disney Wonder, being one of the original two ships in the fleet, was perfect for a first voyage.

The ship itself was absolutely beautiful. For as old as it is, you’d never know. It is immaculately maintained. It seemed like there was new magic to be discovered around every corner and on every deck. This included the Disney music playing in the hallways, Disney characters, magical details on the ship, restaurants, shops, the carpets, and so much more. The staterooms were ridiculously charming, comfortable, and practical.

The Disney Wonder immediately became one of the favorite ships we have ever cruised on, even if it is the smallest. Along with the ship becoming an immediate favorite, the port of San Diego was also completely wonderful. The departure from the port was absolutely beautiful. Combined with the sail-away entertainment, it was a fantastic start to the cruise.

The first day at sea was a blast. Honestly, I would have enjoyed spending every day simply at sea. Between characters, activities, food, and the ambiance, it was a blast just getting to be immersed in the Disney magic. The second day was at Catalina and included an excursion to go and find the bison on the island. This was quite the adventure and was a highlight of the trip also.

Throughout the rest of the cruise, we discovered the true magic of Disney cruising. This magic isn’t just the ship; it’s the people who bring it to life. The food was amazing. The entertainment delightful. Heck, even meeting characters was a lot of fun (I’m not generally a character guy)! Each day was a blast that started with breakfast and coffee up at Cabanas. This was followed by more coffee as I would sit with my iPad and get some work done for Daps Magic.
The days were filled with immersive and delicious dining experiences. They were also filled with incredible stage shows and more intimate piano performances in Cadillac Lounge by the incomparable Katie Bell. In between, there was ice cream, coffee, snacks, Disney movies on the top deck, trivia, and so much more.

Realizing how magical these experiences were on the ship, we opted to cancel our excursion in Ensenada to have more time on board the Wonder. This was a very good choice. While I loved the bison excursion on Catalina as well, I really would love to go back and be completely immersed in the magic of Disney on the Disney Wonder for every moment possible. It really was a special experience, especially for a longtime Disney fan.
Throughout the trip, we vlogged our experiences each day. Now, months later, it is fun to go back and relive those happy moments aboard this lovely ship. The entire playlist of these vlogs can be found here:
⚓️ Our FIRST Disney Cruise! | Day 1 Aboard the Disney Wonder 🌊
The cruise aboard the Disney Wonder surprised me on so many levels. It was like getting to live completely within Disney. As a Disney theme parks fan, this was absolutely fantastic, and I look forward to my next cruise. I hope someday to be able to cruise on all of the Disney Cruise Line ships. It really was magical and one of my favorite cruises to date! Thank you for the experience, Disney!
