Saikyo Iyanashi-sato Nenba and Mount Fuji

A Look Behind the Camera

Generally, I prefer to be behind the camera instead of in front of it. While I do appear on camera fairly frequently, I enjoy the process of creating a shot and then seeing that shot come to life. Sometimes, people around me capture the process, however. Thankfully, when I went to Japan, my sister was very good about getting some shots of me attempting to get some shots.

For this post, I’ll show you a picture of me taking a picture and then how it ultimately turned out! On this day, we had her whole family go with us as we went to check out several different views of Mount Fuji. We ultimately ended up at an ancient Japanese village.

Called Saikyo Iyanashi-sato Nenba, this village really transported you into another time and place. It was like walking into the middle of a Studio Ghibli film. Here is a picture of me taking a picture of this village with Mount Fuji in the background. I can’t remember if my sister or brother-in-law took it. Both have very good eyes for photography.

There were several shots I took while crouched near this fence. Some of them had the grass tufts framing them. Others didn’t. One of my favorites, though, is the following picture. It really captured the peacefulness of this place. It is very easy to imagine people quietly living and working in this village.

This was just one of many places that seemed completely magical during my visit to Japan. I can’t wait to go back and discover more.
