Seattle Ferries

Travel by Sea in Seattle

Seattle is a wonderful place to visit. As long as I can remember, I’ve had family members up there that we have visited. Seattle has multiple forms of travel as well. If you like planes, there is The Museum of Flight, SeaTac Airport, and even float planes on Lake Union! If you like trains, there is the Link light rail, Amtrak, and of course, plenty of freight trains to see. The form of transportation I’ve used perhaps the most in and around Seattle is on the sea.

As a kid, I have fond memories of going on my grandparents’ home-made boat in the San Juan Islands in the area around Seattle. Mooring at James Island stands out as I write this blog. I also have fond memories of going on adventures on the Washington State Ferries. While the boat is still in Portland and not sailing around Seattle currently, I still make an effort every time I’m up in Seattle to go on one of the ferries. On top of the Washington State Ferry System, there are also walk-on ferries that depart from Seattle. This can be a fun and quick way to get to places like Bremerton or even Vancouver, British Columbia!

On one of my last trips to Seattle, I grabbed this photo while enjoying the waterfront in Seattle. I thought it was fun as it shows several of the different ferries that one can travel aboard from Seattle. I also liked that some were departing and one was returning to Seattle.

There are so many fun ferries to ride out of Seattle or the nearby cities in Washington. Another favorite of mine is from Anacortes. From there, it is a wonderful day trip to go to Friday Harbor. I’ll save a post about that for another day, though!

Have you traveled by ferry from Seattle? Where did you go? What’s your favorite form of transportation in and around Seattle? Share your thoughts, tips, and opinions with me in the comments below!
